Len wishes all houses were built by Dale Hicks and Associates
Dale,
Thanks for sharing - You are a modern day pioneer. It was amazing to watch the comparison of the two rooms burning.
The shower looks really good. I do have to have Linda run down stairs to check for leaks but I have no doubt it it is fixed. I did not know there was caulk like that. It is as hard as the grout. Dennis did an excellent job - he taped it all off before applying so it looks really good.
Also thank you for testing the leak before putting the access door in. What a great idea.
I was thinking about comments you have made several times about there being too many regulations by the government for building and how you don't agree with it. I think you said, "They should just get out of the way and let us build". I agree with you 100% if all houses were built by Dale Hicks and Associates. You are a unique soul that does what is right no matter what! You are one of the very few that I would say has a code of living that permeates your life.
It actually would scare the hell out of me if the other 99.9% were allowed to build without controls. I think it would be a disaster.
I spoke with Linda about someone looking at the house on a Sunday.
How about we do it on April 23rd at 1:00?
Kindest Regards,
Len

Dale & Jon,
You two build a truly amazing house! Here are the temperature readings since you left
Temps were:
- Saturday - Morning Temp in house over night is set down to 67 degrees and increases to 71 degrees at 6:30 AM
- At 8 AM
- Outside temp - 11 degrees
- Inside temp - 69.4 degrees
- Attic temp - 67.1
- Only a 2.3 degree difference and there is no heat up there!!
- At 3 PM
- Outside temp - 21 degrees
- Inside temp - 70.1 degrees
- Attic temp - 68.3 degrees
- Only a 1.8 degree difference
- Sunday it was 36 degrees outside
- At about 4 PM there was only a .8 degree difference between the Attic and house
- At 8 AM
They should make this code up in Minnesota. We had a house with many angles and roof lines - the roofs were vented. We would always have huge ice dams. The heat would escape into the attic above the insulation and there was never enough air exchange from the vents to keep it cold. Snow on the roof would melt and run down to the 2 ft overhang that was not insulated and freeze into a dam causing leaks. What a mess. This would seal everything up!!
Great house guys - you should be very proud!!
